OP ART

OP ART

OP art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions.
OP art artworks are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white.
They give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns.
Bridget Riley (London, 1931) is one of the most famous exponent of OP art.
Let's see some of her artworks.

Now it's your turn. Let's do some op art!
1. Draw a 16cm square using your rulers.
Remember : all sides of a square have the same length, and the sides form 90 degree angles.
2. Inside the big square draw a smaller square. Each side is 10cm long, and it is rotated.
3. Inside the small square draw another smaller square. Each side is 6cm long, and it is rotated, too.
4. Divide the big square in 16 equal parts. Each part is 1cm long.
5. Draw vertical parallel lines at the distance of 1cm.
6. Fill in with black, leaving always a white space in between.
